Oakville East 2013 Oakville Napa Valley Exposure Cabernet Sauvignon

The California Wine Club

Tasting Notes: This is a massive wine that possesses soft, integrated tannins. It begins with the traditional Cabernet aromas of blueberry, blackberry and cherry flavors but the cinnamon, maple, leather, clove, orange blossom, cardamom and violet soon jump into the mix. On the palate, crisp, clean acidity is complemented by cranberry, red currant, pomegranate, strawberry and dark fruit flavors. All this suggests it will need time in the cellar to seduce out its tightly wound layers, but the already existing balance between fruit, acidity and tannins make it hard to resist enjoying immediately. 90 Points, Wine Enthusiast Final Blend: 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot Case Production: Only 914 cases produced Pair With: Duck or rib-eye steak Hold Time: Enjoy now or hold up to 20 years Alcohol by Volume: 14.5% Wine club members might be familiar with this selection as we’ve featured the 2010 and 2012 vintages as well.

Stirm Wine Co. 2016 Wirz Vineyard Cienega Valley Old Vine Riesling

The California Wine Club

Tasting Notes: The Cienega Valley in San Benito County is not the first place that comes to mind when thinking of serious Riesling, nor is the notion of “old vines” often mentioned when discussing the local version, but this expressive effort testifies to the worth of both. One of winemaker Ryan Stirm’s chief concerns is that Riesling reveal a sense of place, and there is no question but that his Wirz Vineyard bottlings speak with a different voice than their slightly sleeker and brighter mates from the Kick-On site. Both the 2015 and 2016 offerings are fuller and a bit riper in tone and give play to the variety’s complexing grapefruit and petrol-like terpene traits while retaining a certain dry, fruity richness, and, while each is impressive, this one wins the nod as the deeper, more continuous of the two. 91 Points, Connoisseurs’ Guide to California Wine, September 2018 Final Blend: 100% Riesling Case Production: Only 117 cases produced Hold Time: Enjoy now Alcohol by Volume: 12.7% Cheers to another unique wine club find!

Dragonette Cellars 2014 Santa Ynez Valley MJM Syrah

The California Wine Club

Tasting Notes: Long on the gamy richness of Syrah but boasting a wealth of intense, very deep, blackberry fruit and growing increasingly complex as it unfolds in the glass, Dragonette’s MJM is a fleshy, full-bodied working that is fit with a fine spine of well-integrated tannin, and, while no shrinking violet, it is a carefully crafted wine of controlled richness and never threatens to be too much of a good thing. For all of its explicit character, it has plenty of room in which to grow, and pulling its cork before another four or five years have passed will be doing so well before it has reached its very considerable best. 95 Points, Jeb Dunnuck 94 Points, The Wine Advocate 93 Points, Connoiseurs’ Guide to California Wine, March 2018 Final Blend: 94% Syrah, 5% Grenache, 1% Viognier Case Production: Only 475 cases produced Hold Time: Enjoy now or hold up to 15 years Alcohol by Volume: 14.9%

Dragonette Cellars 2015 Santa Ynez Valley Seven Syrah

The California Wine Club

Tasting Notes: On the nose, fresh blueberries, blackberries, mulberries and black plums, with smoked bacon, bison steaks, cinnamon, nutmeg, herbs and campfire smoke (wow!).  On the palate this wine is explosive with waves of blackberries, smoky fennel, graphite, camphor, red eart and citrus. Significant tannins and solid acidity. Still very young, the wine finishes long with lively citrus notes and stony mineral notes, fresh and dried fruits, and red roses. 93 Points, Robert Parker 92 Points, Connoisseurs’ Guide to California Wine, March 2018 91 Points, Wine Spectator Final Blend: 93% Syrah, 6% Grenache, 1% Viognier Case Production: Only 350 cases produced Pair With: grilled meats and vegetables, braised beef, Osso Buco, ribs, chicken, lamb, aged hard cheeses Hold Time: Enjoy now or hold 3-5 years Alcohol by Volume: 14.4% Uncork this special wine club delivery and experience the best of Santa Ynez Valley.
